About Us
Meet the Midwives
Taylor Alexander
Registered Midwife
I am grateful to be here on Salt Spring Island to serve this wonderful community. From a very young age I felt a calling to Midwifery. To serve and support families through big life transitions and to witness the birth of a mother (or parent) are some of my greatest joys.
I first began my journey through Doula training in 2006. This confirmed my hearts desire to support pregnant and birthing individuals. I went on to obtain my diploma of Practical Nursing in 2009 and graduated from Bastyr Universities Master of Midwifery Program in 2015. I have worked in Calgary, AB, Rankin Inlet, NU, Surrey, and Kelowna, BC.
In my spare time you can find me spending time with my family (partner Matthew and daughter Maeve), hiking with our dog (Charlie), reading or knitting by a fire.

Registered Midwife
My hands-on Midwifery training started in Guelph, Ontario back in 2004 and this is where I raised my family and practiced Midwifery. My first degree was in Biomedical Science from University of Guelph and I then graduated with a degree in Midwifery from McMaster University in 2006.
My amazing kids are no longer children, they are practicing being grown-ups (like the rest of us), and I have 2 beautiful grandsons with whom I try to hangout, whenever I can. My partner and I are avid rock climbers, mountain bikers, nature lovers and enjoy exploring off the beaten paths. My daily yoga practice and Ukelele playing could do with some refreshing.
I am tickled to be catching babies on Salt Spring Island. I look forward to growing roots, expanding this community’s love for Homebirth, advocating for all families’ choices and evidence based medicine. My goal as a midwife is to provide you with unique individualized care, which safely supports your ideals and wishes.
My personal goal is to stay up-to-date with exciting new health/wellness research and to share it. I enjoy the spontaneity of my work and the connection I make with families and with a diverse health care team. Midwifery is never boring!
See you at the farmer's market and on the trails, Sarah.

Registered Midwife
I graduated from nursing in Sweden 1977 and immigrated to Canada in 1984. I became interested in midwifery after the birth of my second child, and returned to Sweden to complete my midwifery degree in 1990. I have been lucky to have had the opportunity to explore childbirth from many different perspectives. I developed and taught Prenatal Yoga classes, worked with pregnant social high-risk and new immigrant women in a primary care clinic. I helped implement Inuit midwifery and education while working as a Maternal Newborn Health Services Consultant for the Government of Nunavut.
Prior to moving to Salt Spring Island, I co-founded a birth center in Edmonton, AB – the Lucina Birth and Family Wellness Centre.
I have mainly practiced as a primary care midwife and mostly in out of hospital settings.
I always strive to facilitate a broad and holistic approach to childbirth. Midwifery and the families I have met over the years have been a lesson in trust, humility, and mystery.
In my spare time I love to travel, I’m trying to explore as much as possible of this remarkable, beautiful world we live in.

Locum Midwife
I began my journey as a midwife in Germany, where I completed my midwifery training in 1996. In addition to my midwifery education, I was also trained and worked as a paramedic, which gave me valuable experience in acute and emergency care. Over the years, I have had the privilege of supporting the birth of more than 3,000 babies, an experience that has shaped me deeply both as a professional and as a person. My career has taken me through large hospital settings as well as into the intimacy of my own private practice, giving me a wide perspective on how families can be nurtured and supported in different environments.
Alongside midwifery, I have always been drawn to holistic approaches to health and well-being. In Germany I trained and worked as an acupuncturist, homeopath, and herbal medicine practitioner, and also offered reflexology. These practices enriched my ability to see and care for the whole person, integrating body, mind, and spirit in the journey through pregnancy and birth.
My greatest passion lies in walking alongside parents during the profound transition of pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. I believe that every family deserves compassionate care, respectful support, and the confidence to embrace these life-changing moments with strength and trust.
Life has brought me to Salt Spring Island, a place I love deeply for its beauty, its community, and its spirit. It is here that I am raising my daughter, and where I feel grateful every day for the chance to weave my personal and professional life together.
It is my joy to live and practice here, offering care that combines professional expertise with heartfelt presence. My hope is that every family I support feels truly seen, held, and empowered as they step into this extraordinary chapter of their lives.
